On Saturday April 25th, the Just in Time Choirs present their Spring concert at the Sid. The theme is “New Orleans” and the singers will be celebrating the music of this unique city.
Just in Time is comprised of three ensembles: Unplugged, the Jems, and Vocal Minority. These renowned contemporary choirs perform under the direction of choral conductor Wendy Nixon Stothert. They will be joined by talented musical collaborators including Sean Mooney on piano, Jeff Drummond on guitar, Britt Bowman on bass, and Beau Stocker on drums, with special guest Mark Hoskins on trumpet.
The choirs will perform songs that are from and about the Big Easy. You’ll hear some swing standards like “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans” and “It Don’t mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got that Swing” along with beautiful ballads like Louis Armstrong’s iconic “What a Wonderful World” and Randy Newman’s heart-breaking “Louisiana”. New Orleans classics like “Mardi Gras Mambo” and “Iko Iko” are on the menu along with “Frim Fram Sauce”. Follow the singers through a second line parade with classics like “Saints Go Marchin’” and “Down By the Riverside”. The singers are engaging, expressive, full of energy and the enjoyment they project in their presentations is obvious and infectious. All three choirs will come together for a memorable finale.
