Rehearsals are well underway for Alone Together Again, Courtenay Little Theatre’s inaugural production for the 2106 -17 season which will be onstage Sept 30 – Oct 7. It is a comedy written by Lawrence Roman and a priceless take on the shift in lifestyle that many “empty nesters” experience once their children leave home.

Helena and George have spent the last thirty years raising three active sons and are anticipating the peace, quiet and privacy of their home finally being all to themselves. Helena is even going to return to a passion she has long held dear to her heart. Unexpectedly, Helena’s parents and George’s mother turn up, each having a dilemma that ostensibly cannot be resolved at their own homes. Issues that have been unspoken of until the present bring to light deep feelings between Helena and George as they attempt to establish some parameters for their newly found freedom from parenting and also to deal with the parental problems that have been dumped on them. Yet, “serious” as all this seems, Roman’s hilariously witty and wonderfully comic script is a lighthearted look at a familiar theme with nuggets of wisdom that ring true for many… not just empty nesters.

With a small cast yet a huge amount of experience shared between them, the show is sure to be yet another of the exceptional ensemble pieces for which CLT is known. Tony Arnold, Jon Faris, Lynn Hodge, Kirstin Humpherys, and Val Macdonald are all seasoned actors well-known in the community.  At the first “cold” read through of the play, Director Sharon Pridham, could already see commitment and professionalism demonstrated by her talented cast as they began developing interpretations of Roman’s characters. Through her direction, she hopes to facilitate her actors to internalize the technical so that it becomes ingrained – like dancers learn a routine – thus to relax and truly become the character they are portraying. She went on to say, “This play resonates deeply with me. I’ve been there, done that. Through Roman’s witty yet cogent dialogue, it speaks of issues around caretaking with sensitivity and most of all it demonstrates the love that can bind and support the resolution of those issues.”
