Back to the Fibre is a two day gathering that features Vancouver Island’s indigenous fibres as well as the artisans who create with them. We are honoured to feature Haida Elder and Master Weaver, Delores Churchill. This event also celebrates local textile businesses and introduces you to tucked away, textile talent from Vancouver Island and surrounding coastal areas. Join weavers, knitters, sewists, pattern makers, upcyclers and more. Network, learn and be inspired. Trade knowledge, skills and creative wisdom. Participate in Round Tables where artists will share their artistic process. Some will offer opportunities to try your hand at making. Come to hear artists in Conversations: “Five Fibre Lady Bosses find Balance”, “Honoring Traditional Design and Innovation,” “Regalia, Artistic Process and Cultural Identity” and “Cultural Appropriation”. Watch films that weave together life stories and the creative impulse. Browse the vendor marketplace. Visit demonstration tables. Refreshments served by the Merville Grandmothers Group.
